In 2012 Thurles Was Named "European Town of Sport"
Thurles was the first town in Ireland to achieve this status and since the announcement North Tipperary Sports Partnership along with members of the steering commitee have been working closely with the primary and secondary schools, sporting clubs and organisations and LIT Tipperary to ensure the success of Thurles European Town of Sport.
