Go For Life Physical Activity Leaders (PAL's) Workshop

Go for Life is the national programme for sport and physical activity for older people. The aim of Go for Life is to involve more older adults in all aspects of sport and physical activity more often. The thrust of the programme is to empower and enable older people by reaching out to active retirement associations, senior citizens groups, day care and community centres around the country, to ensure that more older people are more active, more often.

A series of eight workshops take place in two, 4 week installments, the first in late Spring/early Summer and the second in the Autumn. Each group is invited to have in attendance 2-3 people especially new members from the group who are interested in leading and organising physical activity sessions. As space is limited to 24 places it is advised to book early to avoid disappointment. The representatives from each group must attend all 8 workshop days where possible. All workshops run from 10am to 4pm. Workshops are free of charge and a light lunch will be provided on the day.

Topics covered at the workshops include:

  • Basic Principles
  • Sit-Fit Activities
  • Better Balance
  • Going Strong
  • Rolling & Bowling
  • Pitching & Tossing
  • Stepping & Strolling
  • PALs Skills

After the training it is envisaged that the representatives would be in a position to carry out a leadership role in the planning and managing of activities for your group. For further information, please call Elaine or Sharon at the Sports Partnership office 067-43604.
